Future Laboratories
Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff

Overview of Future Laboratories

Future Laboratories, grew out of The Future Project (TFP) and is a startup that aspires to become society’s R&D department. Just as Bell Labs came to life a century ago to pursue the technical moonshots of their times, Future Labs exists to pursue moonshots for humanity. But what excites us most is how we do that—our core technology and, in our view, the most inspiring invention even in the digital age: you. People. And not just individuals, but brilliant teams made up of pragmatic idealists across every imaginable discipline who aren’t afraid to envision a new future and bring it to life.

Leveraging the power of collective genius, Future Laboratories identifies the world’s biggest problems, conducting original diagnostic work on society; turns those problems into massive opportunities in the form of products, policies, campaigns, concepts, or brand-new categories; and then builds solutions until they are scaled. Already, we are working on projects across the realms of the future of human potential, the future of America, the future of capitalism, and the future of social change itself. As more inspiring visionaries join our team, each exploration and project takes on new life, since people—above all—are the fuel for our problem-solving engine.

About the role - Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff

As we work to establish Future Laboratories as a prolific engine for improving society, we need to build out teams and structures that support our leadership to do the creative visioning, design work, and strategizing necessary to start and scale a brand-new company. The Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff will provide critical capacity to the Office of the Co-Founders, and will be responsible for liaising between several organizational leaders, including Chief of Staff Sydney Henriques-Payne, CEO Andrew Mangino, and other key players on both the Future Laboratories and Future Project teams.

The Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff is a communicator, first and foremost -- a clear and concise writer with a strong intuition for working with people. You have proven experience managing several projects simultaneously as well as handling a consistently heavy workload, often largely composed of administrative work. You are motivated by the mission and vision of our team and can connect your work “behind the scenes” with the bigger picture. Above all else, you are someone who remains organized and composed in fast-paced environments, and who jumps at the opportunity to make an impact through your efforts.

Working directly with the leaders of both Future Laboratories and The Future Project, you will experience first-hand what it means to lead a well-run, growing organization. You will be exposed to an unusually wide range of people and issues in the social impact, education, and nonprofit sectors, and experience firsthand what it takes to build the internal infrastructure and operations of an innovative company.

As the Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff, you will be accountable for…

Internal Communications and Executive Administrative Support (60% of time)
